Book summary
Lily grew up in a small town in Maine. Her father was abusive to her mother for her entire childhood, so naturally Lily learned to resent her father. Lily has never been afraid of working for the things that she wants. When she graduates from college, she moves to Boston to start a new life. On the night of her father's funeral she meets a beautiful man named Ryle Kincaid. Ryle is a neurosurgeon and has a way with Lily, his voice send vibrations down her body every time he speaks. She notices that he has a very arrogant deminer and is work driven on the first night they meet. Although he makes it clear to her that he does not do relationships, he can not hide his attraction to Lily. When he has to leave, Lily finds herself not wanting him to go.
After Lily buys building for her new business Lily meets her bestfriend and new employee Allyssa, who she soon comes to realize is Ryle's sister. Meeting Ryle again is a surreal moment for her, she finds that they still have the same spark as the first time they met. They start dating and everything is going well, it all seems a little too good to be true. A few weeks in, Lily unexpectedly runs into her Atlas, her first love, at dinner. She is conflicted because she has always harbored feelings for Atlas and she knows that this could destroy everything she has built with Ryle. She decides to see her relationship with Ryle through. Afterall, she has not seen him since she was 16 years old. As Ryle and Lily's relationship continues, she starts to notice his violent behaviors. When he starts abusing her, her views of him alter. She notices some aspects of her father in him, but she chooses to forgive him and stay, just like her mother did. She finds it harder to leave the person she loves rather than simply forgiving him. After Ryle finds out about Atlas, he starts abusing her more often. Lily knows she needs to leave him, but where will she go? |
